What Are Hiring Velocity Signals?
Hiring velocity measures the rate of change in a company's hiring activity, not just the absolute number of open roles. A company with 100 job postings that was flat for six months tells a very different story than a company with 100 postings that added 60 of them in the last 30 days. Velocity captures this momentum and urgency.
Autobound calculates hiring velocity across 30, 60, and 90-day windows for 21M+ companies. We classify companies as accelerating (increasing hiring pace), steady (consistent activity), or decelerating (reducing postings). The velocity signal also includes department-level breakdowns showing which parts of the organization are driving the acceleration.
Seniority distribution adds another dimension to velocity signals. A company accelerating its hiring of senior and staff-level engineers signals a different investment thesis than one ramping up junior customer support hires. Our signals break down the seniority mix across director-plus, senior individual contributor, mid-level, and entry-level bands.
Hiring velocity is one of the strongest predictive signals for technology purchasing. Research consistently shows that companies in hiring acceleration mode are 3-5x more likely to evaluate new vendors, expand existing contracts, and approve unbudgeted purchases. When a company is building fast, they cannot wait for the next budget cycle to get the tools their growing team needs.
